FAQs
What is your basement finishing process?
It starts with a free in-home walkthrough and estimate. If you’re redesigning your layout,we provide an initial design visual to help you picture the space. From there, you’ll visit our showroom to finalize selections, flooring, fixtures, cabinetry, lighting, and finishes. Kali is your single point of contact for both design and project coordination throughout the entire job. Once materials are ordered,we provide a tentative start date and a clear project schedule. When construction wraps up,we do a final walkthrough together and deliver your 1-year warranty.
Do I need to handle permits and inspections?
No. RHD takes care of all permits, inspections, and coordination for your basement finishing project, including any subcontractors required. You won’t need to manage the permit process on your own.
Can you add a bathroom to my basement?
Yes. Basement bathroom additions are one of our most common projects. Our licensed plumbers handle all rough-in work, drain tie-ins,and fixture installation. We also coordinate the full build, tile, cabinetry, lighting, and ventilation, so you get a finished bathroom, not just plumbing stubs in the floor.
Do you charge a design fee?
We do not charge a design fee for the initial visual included with your estimate. A design fee only applies if you request additional detailed drawings or renderings beyond the initial concept. Any cost is discussed with you clearly before moving forward.
How do you handle unexpected issues during construction?
Basements can hold surprises, moisture issues, older drain configurations,or structural elements that weren’t visible before demo. If something unexpected comes up that would add cost,we stop, explain the situation, and walk through your options before any additional work is done. Nothing moves forward without your approval.
How long does basement finishing typically take?
Most basement finishing projects take six to 10 weeks once construction begins. The timeline depends on the scope of work, material availability, and whether plumbing or electrical permits require inspections. We set realistic expectations and provide a schedule before we start so you know what to expect.
Will finishing my basement affect my heating and cooling system?
Finished basements do add conditioned square footage to your home, which can affect how your HVAC system performs. We account for this during the planning phase and coordinate vent placement and insulation to help your existing system manage the additional space efficiently.
How do you control dust and mess during the project?
We line the full pathway from the work area to the exterior with plastic sheeting and replace it as needed throughout the project. Floor-to-ceiling plastic containment walls keep dust confined to the work zone as much as possible. Our team cleans up each day before leaving. There will always be a small amount of dust that escapes the containment area, especially on demo and drywall days, but we work hard to keep your home as clean and comfortable as possible.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Every basement finishing project includes a 1-year workmanship warranty delivered at the final walkthrough.
Can I use my basement during the project?
In most cases, your basement will be off-limits during active construction phases. Our team will walk through expectations with you at the start so you can plan accordingly. Access to storage items may require staging them in another part of your home before work begins.
Do you have references?
Yes. We’re happy to connect you with past basement finishing clients upon request. You can also read reviews from Dane County homeowners on our Google Business Profile and our reviews page.
